How about compiling from source? Or look into how Debian/Ubuntu/Mint build the
gimppackage, then change the version and run the build process on your local machine?You loose out on automatic updates and not all packages are easy to build. I am not personally familiar with building Gimp. But I’ve tried to build other projects from GitHub only to get errors I couldn’t decipher.
It’s a skill which not many have.
I think this is why OP got 21 downvotes. It is unreasonable to demand something fast, free, and good. You are going to get flatpak if you want it fast and free.
