Yeah, why would they? Hollywood is only catering to people born in the 70s and 80s with remakes or geriatric sequels of 40 year old movies. Im right in that demographic and im sick of it. I can’t imagine how boring it would be for people that don’t have that nostalgia. Same goes for TV.
As a “someone born in the 70s and 80s”, Hollywood doesn’t cater to me… or my similarly aged wife and friends. We go to maybe 1 or 2 films a year tops and only really because of our daughter. We canceled Netflix a while back and just don’t watch much TV at all. One of our 40-something friends doesn’t even own a TV anymore. Everything is just rehashed junk at this point and it’s depressing.
I have a TV. For YT and Jellyfin.
Hey I’m from the 80s, don’t lump me in with that crowd! Although honestly I may be an outlier for my age group. I live in a bubble so I don’t know what regular people in their 40s do with their time.
I started watching YouTube during the pandemic I think, and at this point I don’t watch much standard TV at all and have gone back to reading and audiobooks which is way more fulfilling.
Yeah I’m the same im not saying people in their 40s are all watching the garbage they put out what I’m saying is hollywood thinks only people in their 40s are watching movies and TV and we only want shit from our childhoods I guess and thus driving even more people from that medium.
Ehhh, I would say it’s the age old rule that 90% of everything is crap, it’s more just that it has cranked up to like 97% of everything is crap.
Severance and Common Side Effects stand as two shows that recently ran (Common Side Effects has one episode left this season, and Severance season 2 wasn’t quite as good but still thoughtful) which are very, very good. I’m just here for Joe Bennett’s American Chibi style of art.
This just in, media reporting on social trend that started at least a decade ago. More tonight at 11.
The medium is the message.
This article is not actually suggesting Gen Z find YouTubers or whatever more entertaining than films and TV series, as the replies seem to have (mis)understood. This is about Gen Z finding social media figures more trustworthy and relatable than Hollywood stars and social media advertising being more influential than advertising on TV, which are not particularly surprising or interesting insights. Similarly, social media being a more affordable form of entertainment compared to streaming is not a new talking point.
