Dude, this game is pretty decent. I had been saying Lies of P is the closest Fromsoft soulslike but LOTF is also up there with it. It has a little bit of every FS game in its bones, plus the world shifting gimmick also gives it notes of Soul Reaver.
The only thing I can even say negative about it is that the story feels a bit like it’s trying to be edgy and dark for the sake of being edgy and dark. Oh, and the mimics are absolute bullshit.
It was definitely leagues better than the original LotF. I think it put out too much edge and not enough mystery to really scratch the soulslore itch. Gameplay was good though. Love me lamp.
I do like the mechanic of not getting the flavor description (the bit with lore and not just function) unless your stats are high enough. Though I wish it said how much. I am doing an Infernal build, I have 35 inferno and I still don’t have the flavor text on any of my infernal gear. :(
Ah shit. I was much too dumb of a bonk boi to ever look at that. Thats a really cool mechanic imo, it immerses you just a little bit in your character. It might be specific to each piece of gear. I vaguely remember my buddy talking about that before they had level caps.
Haven’t played the original, haven’t played the reboot tbh. All I’ve heard is that both are pretty mediocre, but I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yum
That’s kind of a fair assessment. It’s not a masterpiece, but it does have the feel of an OG Fromsoft game along with logical QOL changes, similar to what Torchlight was to Diablo. If you just want more Dark Souls gameplay, it’ll satisfy though maybe not challenge you as much. If you demand the good story-telling and worldbuilding, it won’t (unless you’re a fan of Chris Avellone; it has his kind of vibe even though he wasn’t involved).
The reboot seemed to have some pretty cool ideas going on, I’ll give them that. All I’ve seen of the original title was that the combat was really really floaty. Apart from that, it’s probably best to just try games for yourself before forming an opinion, so I’ll see if I can get around to it sometime. The parallel to Torchlight sounds promising ngl.
Finishing up another playthrough of Lies of P right now and will probably be moving on to Thymesia after that since I bought a copy a few weeks ago. Maybe I’ll try LotF sometime after? I’ll be honest, I still haven’t finished DS 1-3, Elden Ring (DLC) and any of the Nioh games, because I keep getting hung up on Sekiro, Bloodborne, and Lies of P, so I’m not confident it’ll be any time soon, but I can hope lol
Cause its mediocre at best
Compared to what?
It’s not quite as good as Fromsoft’s stuff, but it’s better than 90% of the genre.
90%?! lmao not even close
Are you aware of just how much shovelware is made in the genre trying to capitalize upon the popularity of it? There is WAY more garbage than actually good games in it now.
