    I was watching this video on neutron stars the other day, and apparently there is a kind of matter containing Strange quarks that acts as a catalyst to convert any other matter it touches into more of itself. Like Vonnegut’s Ice 9, but far worse. And apparently some people think it could be created in the LHC. The entire planet could be converted into a super dense ball of this stuff in minutes.

      Yeah, but probably not

      It’s somewhat the same as “the LHC can create black holes Omg!” but in reality the LHC cannot get even close to the energies of some matter slamming into our atmosphere on almost a daily basis, which was ejected from super novae billions of years away and billions of years ago.

      The LHC is awesome, powerful, but in comparison to an actual star it’s the equivalent of a babie’s toy
