The U.S. Department of Justice’s 10-week antitrust trial against Google is underway, and it has the potential to spell big trouble for the Mountain View tech giant. The Justice Department, along with several individual states, claim that Google was able to reach its status as the dominant company in search through anti-competitive means. Now, the company has reached monopoly status and everything needs to be investigated.

    How old are you?

Because that’s exactly how Google search rose to dominance.

Yahoo, Altavista, Ask Jeeves and Savvy Search all sucked compared to Google.

It was word of mouth that shot them to the top, the behavior you described didn’t start until like 10 or 15 years later.

Google was also simple and fast.
All the others had pictures, tried to look fancy, the landing page had news and all sorts.
Google had a text box and 2 buttons. The results were plain text, no junk. And it was fast, and decent. It was absolutely perfect for the early days of slow computers and even slower internet

Old enough to have witnessed the raise of Google Search while I was still searching with lycos. I mean, yeah Google Search was pretty amazing back then but its not anymore.
