If the concept of being on equal footing breaks up a marriage, it wasn’t a healthy relationship to begin with.

Ugh, this! My dad constantly talked down to my mom and called her stupid. It definitely messed up my siblings and I idea of what it means to be a woman. I can’t believe that I thought she deserved it at times. It wasn’t until I had been out of the house for a few years that I could see clearly what was going on, and encouraged her to leave (she did, and is much happier now).

That’s not good to be around, and not a good relationship to have modelled to you. I’m not surprised you started to think she deserved it, you were literally being taught that.

Agree with your point and glad you helped your mom fix her life ! The schoolmarm in me wants to point out it’s “my siblings’ and my idea”

My father was remarkably progressive for the times, especially considering he was in the military.

He still treated my mother as somewhat of a second class citizen in the home (despite treating her better than 99.44% of the men around him in our neighbourhoods around the world).

Anybody who thought women had it better off in the '50s is just plain ignorant. Literally the moment women could start initiating divorces, the divorce rate shot sky-high. This isn’t the fault of being able to divorce…

I think you forgot to put quotes around that last word - IMHO, there’s little that should be considered “normal” when it comes to those people who are into that fetish.

I do understand, but don’t agree. IMHO, if my contributions are otherwise valid, then my actual gender should be irrelevant. Especially in a forum open to public view and participation, preventing someone who may have valid input from responding just because of their gender seems absurd to me.

I usually browse “All Posts” (across all servers & communities) by default without much concern for what specific community I’m looking at in order to avoid locking myself into echo chambers (among other benefits of seeing posts I might otherwise not see). I’m deliberately attempting to avoid limiting what types of perspectives I see so that I can strive to be as well-rounded & informed a person as I can manage to be.

Regardless, I’ve no desire to cause trouble. Therefore I will block your community in order to ensure I don’t unintentionally stir the pot.

          Chao.

I’m 59. My parents were adults in the '50s. Their stories belie these claims about how “happy” people were in the '50s. But you already knew that and were just counting on demographics to save your lying ass.

      Also:

Which part of “women only” was unclear to you? I mean there’s only two words there. Which one did you not understand?

It’s from a profoundly stupid man, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. 😀
