Just had YouTube spit an ad to me on mobile for what they called a new Dragon Ball Z game, every single shot was ai and driven by an ai voice. There really is no one approving content anymore.

Newpipe is a great YouTube player on Android that doesn’t show ads.

Uninstall YouTube. ;) No, I’m serious. I’m on an iPhone 16 Pro Max (well, I’m on my Mac, my iPhone is next to me). I just browse YouTube in Safari on the iPhone. (On the Mac, it’s Firefox with uBlock Origin.)

I’m currently using uBlock Lite for ad blocking in Safari, and it works well with YouTube. I don’t get ads. I do get them on IMDb, which is annoying. I also have two paid options, Adguard Pro and Wipr 2, but those aren’t presently active (since ad blockers can disrupt one another).

Yeah, it’s fairly new (last year?). And it’s not as good as Firefox with uBlock Origin. It’s “yet another Safari block list.” But it works okay.

This must be why. I’ve been using firefox and firefox focus, because I wanted to avoid safari, but I guess with this I can maybe use it for youtube at least.

On iOS, either you’re using Safari, or you’re using a skinned Safari renderer that can’t use some of Safari’s best features. Sadly, iOS users don’t have real choice in browsers.
