I was super excited about it but, now that I missed out on the first batch (yes I would have paid the $500), I’m not sure I’m going to buy it unless I can see there’s a good community around it. The official forum is kind of dull. I don’t have Facebook which, based on what 8-bit Guy has said, is the most active place for discussion, so I don’t know how the vibe is over there.
I’m going to get one at the ~$300 level. Their discord channel is pretty active. David and some of the collaborators show up there pretty often. https://discord.gg/nS2PqEC
I totally forgot about the discord! I might have unjoined around the time I figured it was just never going to happen a few years ago. I’ll check that out again.
I’m still holding out for a kit version. Maybe someone will make an open source clone.
I think I will when they do their first production run, I don’t know what I’ll do with it, I have no free time or desk space, but I think I neeeed it.
I’ll probably get one, though I’ll wait for reviews and such. Until then- I got an agon light, which has scratched a similar itch.
I’m seriously considering it, but I would get the kit version if and when it’s offered. I spend my days doing all sorts of building.
I’m not interested in programming for it myself so the way I see it, its desirability very much depends on network effects and whether it gets a big enough user base and software library. I think there is a good chance of that happening but I keep seeing new projects muscling in on the same space like the Foenix computers and the Agon which makes it less likely that any one of them will be a thriving ‘platform’.
Yeah. Same. I’m not a coder. I just thought it would be a fun machine to play around with.
How are the forums at https://cx16forum.com/forum/index.php ? are they good ‘comunity’ is there a Lemmy community? I will probably continue to use the emulator until someone gets me an actual machine for Christmas or birthday. I hope they will keep the emulator up once the actual machine has gone mainstream.
If I do, it’s going to be way down the line. Murray’s been talking about kits and consolized versions, and lower prices, and I want to see where they go with with those. It’s a cool idea, but I wasn’t enough of a true believer to put my money on it at the beginning, and I’m content to keep waiting.
