Yes. I have played it since the orange box and still do occasionally. This is “you couldn’t make blazing saddles today” nonsense. The satire is and has been apparent for a long time in large part because Valve generally doesn’t punch down.
I love the arguement that you couldn’t make blazing saddles today because if you handed the script to a producer, they’d take one look and go “we can’t make this! This is just blazing saddles, and it came out years ago”
Lol ok I’ll give you that. But I also think you get what I mean. There’s actually a fantastic video called that covers this issue incredibly well. I think you’ll really enjoy it.
I don’t think it’s the fact that people are too easily offended, if that’s what you mean. It’s good satire, to be sure. I just personally think that the amount of people who play a lot of video games are marketed towards these days may not be the crowd known for their… critical thinking.
Plus, it’s things like sensational journalism that I feel would be the ones to put out their opinion to outrage the masses. Again: I don’t think that people are “too easily offended” or whatever these days. But many are easily swayed by mass media opinions. That’s just my thought.
At the very least people would be upset about the demoman’s VA being white, and would probably try to claim that the demoman being an alcoholic has everything to do with racism and not the fact that he’s supposed to be a Scottish stereotype. Tbh, other than that I’m not really sure what people would get upset about except maybe that there aren’t any (known) playable female characters (iirc the pyro’s gender is supposed to be androgenous and a mystery) and 8 out of 9 of the characters are white.
I legitimately don’t think they could get away with releasing TF2 today.
I don’t think anyone could get away with doing anything today. There’s always something.
Then you just aren’t watching current media.
Why
Have you ever played TF2? The content is definitely something that modern journalism would use to stir folks up if it was released in these times.
It’s purposely rude and often uses stereotypes, but the point is that it’s supposed to be cartoonishly ridiculous in its character depictions.
