    As someone from a football (soccer) country this confuses me: aren’t softball and baseball essentially the same sport?

      (USA, so grain of salt)Softball has a larger ball, and pitched underhand. In the US, it is common for schools to have girls play softball instead of baseball, but is starting to slowly shift.

      There’s different rules between softball and baseball; but yes, same concept. Edit to say that the biggest difference is ball size. And because softball is larger, the fast balls generally don’t get as fast as baseball. I believe field size is different, so baseball is spread out farther.
