It’s the same over the pond, there’s a paranoia held by many that the government is out to persecute the common people. Very strange on both sides, it’s almost Orwell levels of Newspeak.

I’ve been really enjoying it. I don’t know about how it is lore wise but it’s been entertaining for me. I have found it confusing with the different timelines and not knowing who is who but overall I think it’s been great, at face value at least.
You are assuming that people don’t want to be selfish and that everyone wants to live in peace, this is simply not true. People aren’t “evil” because they lack knowledge, nor because they are unloved. Meeting evil with love is a great way to get yourself killed or psychologically damaged by someone who enjoys being “evil” and thinks you’re an easy target to play with.
What does atomic mean in this sense? That seems more confusing than immutable.
I don’t need to prove you wrong with examples, you are wrong, it’s very well documented and widely understood. If you choose to not believe it and can’t be bothered to research it yourself then you have chosen to stay ignorant, and wrong, which is your right.

Statistics isn’t defined by examples. Educate yourself, this is a very well known and understood concept. Staying in ignorance is your choice.

I liked it until about half way through, it seemed to lose all the intrigue and then there was the weird bit about rape (if I remember correctly) at which point I gave up. Shame because it started well.
Just finished Embassytown by China Mieville. Haven’t read anything for ages so took the opportunity to get back into it on a lazy holiday. Highly recommend this book, or any by China, if you enjoy dense sci-fi.
