  • Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to give that a try this weekend. I assumed it would require a full VM but never thought to try it in LXC, nice if it’s that simple and I now feel kind of silly for asking haha. And the reproducibility and ease of deployment is indeed a big plus of Docker compared to LXC. It would be nice if Proxmox could add native integration for Docker at some point.


  • Thanks for the tip, for some reason I assumed I couldn’t run docker in LXC but never actually tried… I prefer to avoid the overhead of a full VM and I find LXCs way easier to manage from the host system. Guess I’ll have something to test this weekend. Cheers!











  • /120? /48 and /64 are common assignments, where /48 is imho preferred as it allows you to easily use SLAAC inside your network. I’ve seen plenty of home setups too and I don’t know how to say this nicely but you should really read up on IPv6 before posting comments like this pretending you have an idea what you’re talking about. Seriously.


  • I don’t agree that you usually would still use NAT with IPv6. I’ve never seen NAT in combination with IPv6 and I’ve seen plenty of deployments at our customers. NAT is not the same as a firewall, so just using public IPv6 addresses does not mean that you are exposing every port by default. I think you should read up on IPv6 and firewalling before making statements like this :)

    Edit: you don’t even have to set up firewalling on each internal device… the router/firewall blocks inbound traffic by default.



  • A fun experiment I did recently was to measure the speed of sound with my oscilloscope. I wired up a speaker and a microphone at a known distance from each other, connected the oscilloscope to both sides and measured how long it took between sound trigger & reception. I came within several meters/second accuracy which I think is a nice result for a basic home lab setup.

    I also track a lot of metrics around the house using Home Assistant. Temperature, humidity, power usage, light levels, heating, but also stuff like total meters of filament used, total objects printed, system metrics. I like statistics and it’s fun to compare months/years and clearly see the results of improved isolation for example.
