The original actor went into rapid decline due to wielding the ruby-hilted dagger from Shadar Logoth. The showrunners have fixed this in season 2 by using a prop instead of the real thing.
Man the actors’ association really has to negotiate some better work conditions when it comes to dealing with cursed artifacts. Willem Dafoe still hasn’t recovered from the Green Goblin mask.

I do like the new guy though, he did great in the finale of season 2.
I loved Harris. He was my favorite in season 1 alongside Sister Strongjaw. I really like Finn, too, and absolutely agree that he was great in the finale.
I wish Harris well, whatever is going on, and I’m looking forward to Finn’s future.

Since this is about wheel of time, I’ll clarify. We don’t know why the original Mat (Barney Harris) left the show. No official or unofficial word has ever been given by Harris or anyone else associated. Speculations abound, but nothing has ever confirmed his reason for leaving.
