This feels natural for me. Little children often identify with animals and it can be easier for them to think of children as animals. That’s why they love stories with animal protagonists and that’s why they love Hello Kitty. But it kind of spells out the truth and puts away the magic to say directly she’s a little girl. Maybe it would be better to let her be a girl but to call her a cat.
I don’t want to fix her. I want to adopt her.
