I wouldn’t be so sure, he’s pretty far down the libertarian rabbit hole and this was just a move to ensure continued support of Trump from libertarian voters.
That’s a fair point that he wasn’t convicted for murder-for-hire, but it still factored into his sentencing. Also, being shitty at murder-for-hire doesn’t make you less guilty of the attempt.
Did he, though? He wasn’t charged with that, nobody was harmed, the cops involved were incredibly corrupt and DID end up charged with various crimes, and the guy he apparently “tried to kill” says he didn’t and should be freed.
Forrest also considered heart-rending testimony from two parents of Silk Road customers who died after consuming drugs. Prior to sentencing, the defense submitted a report from a forensic pathologist who detailed the lack of evidence to support the contention that drugs purchased on Silk Road caused those deaths or four others cited by the government. But Forrest deemed those incidents relevant because she concluded, based on “a preponderance of the evidence,” that “the deaths, in some way, [were] related to Silk Road.”
The prosecution deciding to not file those charges because corrupt agents complicated their case and they had enough evidence to lock him up for forever plus a day doesn’t mean that he didn’t try his absolute hardest to murder five people.

oh yeah, I don’t mean Trump’s reasons are good - I mean the outcome is good. Ross’s sentence was ridiculous
The guy tried to kill five people. What’s the appropriate sentence for murder for hire?
Oh ok, so he only tried to hire a hitman once. Yeah, let him out. /s

The court found by preponderance of evidence that he commissioned those murders.
This is misinformation.https://reason.com/2025/01/20/why-trump-should-keep-his-promise-to-free-silk-road-founder-ross-ulbricht/
Edit:

Thank you for following up with that
That’s a different thing. The court found that he commissioned the murders-for-hire specifically and believed that they would be carried out.

I’m not a prosecutor but it was presented in court and factored into his sentencing.
He was not prosecuted for any of the “murder for hire” attempts.

So what? This isn’t a court room.
