I never really got the pushback on corporations participating in LGBT events. Corporations aren’t people, they’re just amoral money making machines. Any support they give to the LGBT community is just a reflection of the leadership of the company thinking that it is more profitable to be seen as supportive. It seems like a sign of progress at least.

they’re either people who dislike LGBT representation, but try to inspire lethargy, or hate corporations that much, or feel insulted by the hollow support now that it’s legal and mostly accepted, and that support wasn’t there when it was needed, and isn’t offered in places where it’s needed (eg : no gay couples in ads in saudi arabia)

I mean, from my perspective, it’s a net positive. But it is a hollow gesture, but at least they’re reinforcing the normality of LGBT people.

Yeah, that’s a good way of looking at it.

It’s because a lot of queer people hate capitalism and get upset when these machines try to muscle into our spaces. Corporations don’t want to be seen as the moneymaking machines they are, and use social issues to convince people that they’re not inhuman beasts. Who can trust something like that, especially when they try to pass themselves off as human?

I’d rather not have another enemy to fight for on that front, but I also hate corporations taking up space in my life. They can fuck off in general, especially regarding something so important to me

If we boycott brands that are anti LGBT, we should consider using pro LGBT brands over neutral ones. With the big caveat that minor things like merely selling pride merch during June doesn’t really make you pro LGBT.

This year, we will have “Christian martyrdom awareness” instead, to try to gain cookiepoints from the Trump admin.
