There’s a distinction between policy and diplomacy. If anything they should engage in more indulgent coaxing and shrewd flattery, it’s the only thing that actually works on someone with such a fragile ego. If they came out and basically said, “you’re being a crazy person right now, and we will fight you” he would only do it harder.
So in order to talk to you without getting painted with the Neville Chamberlain brush I have to accept the idea that politicians always say what they mean? What kind of conversation are you trying even have right now?
