Yep! One of the first M-rated games I was allowed to play! I feel like I really kinda sucked at it but I loved it to death. I think the environment of the first mission is beautiful, and I was surprised on my recent revisit that Vanessa Marshall is the voice actress for your HQ contact!
I remember getting it because it was one of the first online multiplayer titles for the PS2. And it was laggy as fuck.
The guy at the video rental store was playing it and I instantly loved it. The voice commands actually work, it’s like magic
God yes!
My brother and I used to play it every day! He was usually my only defender when I’d inevitably get accused of cheating. “Sorry dude, he doesn’t need to cheat. You just suck.” So many good times. Loved doing paintball and shotgun duels. Then I broke my headset and couldn’t find another one. I drifted toward PC gaming and when they shut down the SOCOM 4 servers, my brother gave up gaming.
Both of us keep hoping they’ll finally do a new one that has crossplay so we can team up again.
Haven’t tried this yet, so not sure anything is live, but am hopeful
Heck yeah, I went to the launch party for it at the PlayStation Store in SF. They gave away these dog tag things.
My friends and I played this game so much using the PS2 network adapter thingy before moving to the Xbox for Halo 2 over Xbox Live.
I didn’t play that one but 3 and Combined Assault was good
I never actually played it, but I definitely remember it being one of the games that everyone at school was talking about.
Never played it, BUT on G4TV in the mid 2000’s there was a show called Arena (basically esports but they play several different games per episode) where the teams played Socom 2 a lot. Always looked fun though ☺️
This one is the most memorable for me simply because it was the very first socom game for me and I loved the graphics and using commands. I never got a chance to experience the game using the headset, but it was such a great game. I need to play 3 and combined assault.
I didn’t have a PS2 to play it but I remember watching early versions of competitive gaming on g4 (or whatever it was before) where they’d play lan matches on TV. Was that x play?
This was the one that started you in Albania/elsewhere in the Balkans, right? I could never get past the third mission but I remember it being a blast
Was this the one with the voice control headset? Never figured out how to make it work.
Yep! In fact, I got so nostalgic about it, I have been playing it on PCSX2 in recent weeks 😅
