that’s what people are saying at least
(talking about nyaa)
idk when but apparently it’s back up. idk what was up with it
Okay, but why would someone be torrenting without a VPN in the USA anyway?
They’re like ~$6 a month for literally all forms of media in HD quality. If you want a free version sans vpn then go to putlocker or one of the kiss clones. Obviously still a bad move and death to amerikkka but come on folk.
I just use a seedbox and copy magnet links personally.
While it won’t help you get to Nyaa there are browser plugins that’ll send the magnet URIs to any remote torrent client (like a seedbox).
Ah, so that’s why it was down when I went to check this morning. What am I supposed to do now, become a productive member of society? It’s the holidays!
yep
big oof
works in uk if americans want to vpn in i guessit works everywhere else, and vpns do work to get around it for now
weird, it works for me in the US
At least I can still read manga on shadywebsite.biz
i want to click it
Related, but anyone else notice Crunchyroll doesn’t show up when streamed over Discord?
And then also, the two biggest movie worlds on VRChat were recently taken down D:
https://aniwave.to/watch2gether
streams over discord but also others can join the room in a browser to watchThis is awesome. Thanks!
Just tried on my mobile network and my home ISP and both timed out with a 504; tried again with my VPN outside the US and it went through immediately. I know Verizon has blocked Nyaa for a while, but this would be a major escalation if true. Do we know what kind of a block this is?
edit: able to access it again!!
Guessing it’s just blocked at the DNS level. I have an internal DNS server that forwards to CloudFlare DNS, and I can still see the site. If you’re on a desktop PC, try setting your DNS addresses to
1.1.1.1
and1.0.0.1
and you may be able to see the site again. Not the case for me. Resolving the domain using non-US based DNS server works and points to the correct IP, still couldn’t connect though.
Edit: Seems like the block is coming from Nyaa’s end, I seriously doubt all US ISPs could effectively coordinate blocking some anime tracker lol
not yet to my knowledge
Any idea what prompted it?
I’m assuming it’s got more to do with their Russian Cloudflare alternative.
Isn’t loading on Bell internet in Canada.
K, it’s working here now.
I can check later but it’s definitely something ISPs are doing and not just Nyaa dropping connections from the US?
Edit: I don’t have a cached DNS and don’t use Nyaa. My ISP’s DNS is resolving a DDOS Guard IP. These are Russians who briefly rendered service to the other (worse) bird site after Cloudflare unceremoniously flipped and kicked them off. Possibly related to sanctions or something.
That’s pretty crazy, Nyaa is great and in my experience you don’t even need a VPN for most things on there because JP companies don’t (usually) send copyright notices for torrenting.
Hopefully they can just grab a new URL.Fuck, can’t even get my niche treats these days without a vpn
That’s why I get my anime from the laziest possible source: a friend of a friend’s Crunchyroll login
Seems to be reachable for me in the states when using Quad9’s DNS servers.
